Software

Purpose-built tools from the world’s leading data recovery lab. Since 1997, the engineers at Datarecovery.com have created novel solutions for novel problems. Data loss disasters rarely follow the same script — and when the goal is to get files back to a working condition, creative thinking is just as important as an ISO 5 cleanroom.

Our engineers have built software tools to handle those challenges: Apple volumes on a Windows bench, Veeam repositories the backup server can no longer open, ZFS RAID-Z pools that will no longer import, wallet phrases that no longer restore, and large transfers that have to be encrypted end to end.

If you’re dealing with a data disaster, we strongly recommend working with a dedicated laboratory — but we also believe in open access to professional technologies.

Each of the programs below is available as a single, digitally signed Windows executable at a one-time price (per license). The download opens the moment payment clears. Every program has a free trial on request.

Professional Data Tools with No Subscriptions

One signed file, nothing hidden

We built these tools for laboratory use, and they’re built to work efficiently and simply. One executable per program, Authenticode-signed by Datarecovery.com, Inc., SHA-256 published on the program page. No installer, no background service, no license server.

Built for secure use cases

Data security is a key concern in each of our laboratories. vextract never writes to a backup file. RAIDZ Recovery opens every member disk read-only and never imports the pool. APFS and HFS+ for Windows mounts read-only (unless you choose otherwise). SOL Seed Finder runs offline and never transmits a phrase.

One-time price

Upon request, we can provide a free trial for any of these tools. After that, it’s a one-time purchase per license — no subscriptions, no hidden fees. Pay by card or receive a 10% discount for paying via cryptocurrency.

Email support included

Support is available via email: write to help@datarecovery.com, Monday to Friday, 9 am to 4 pm Central, and receive a response from the engineers who built the tool.

APFS and HFS+ for Windows

Designed for help desks, forensic examiners, and administrators who get Mac drives on a Windows bench.

  • Mounts APFS and HFS+ (HFSX) volumes as a Windows drive letter; files open in File Explorer and any Windows program.
  • Copy All moves an entire Mac drive to a Windows folder while maintaining the structure and dates. Comprehensive reporting provides a log of all successful and failed transfers.
  • HFS+ read-write, including journaled volumes; adds files and folders to APFS drives, including multi-terabyte disk images.
  • Multi-terabyte APFS containers and RAID arrays; command-line inspection byte for byte for forensic work.

Version 1.5 · 0.1 MB · Windows · Digitally signed by Datarecovery.com, Inc. · Needs administrator rights; drive-letter mounting uses the Dokan runtime.

barydata for Windows

Our engineers needed a secure solution for moving large files between sites, clients, and labs without handing them to a third-party file service. Cloud storage services can violate data security standards (such as NIST frameworks), and their controls aren’t rigorous enough to protect client data in mission-critical situations.

We created a tool that allows users to easily send large files without transmitting them to a third-party intermediary. That tool is barydata.

  • Simply select the file that you want to share. A share link appears the moment an upload starts; recipients can begin downloading while you are still sending.
  • Every file is encrypted on your machine before the upload. barydata never holds your files or your keys.
  • Send, receive, and manage links from one window. Optionally, you can contribute a capped amount of spare disk space to the network.
  • The software does not require administrator access, and nothing is left listening on the machine.

15.6 MB · Windows · Digitally signed by Datarecovery.com, Inc. · Pairs with barydata.com in any browser; the first send confirms a mobile number or email with a code.

Justin McClelland’s SOL Seed Finder

Solana is a leading cryptocurrency with exceptional use cases, but we frequently receive requests related to lost Solana recovery phrases.

SOL Seed Finder is a simple tool designed for incident responders, wallet support engineers, and programmers who have a SOL recovery phrase that doesn’t work as anticipated (for example, the user wrote down all of the BIP39 seed phrase words, but one of them is out of order).

  • The software tests the phrase as written, then tests words in the wrong order, one wrong word in any position, order errors plus one wrong word, and two misspelled words.
  • Every candidate must pass the BIP39 checksum before a key is derived, so most wrong candidates are rejected without a derivation.
  • Checks m/44’/501’/N’/0′ (Phantom, Solflare, Backpack), m/44’/501’/N’ (Ledger, Trust Wallet), m/44’/501’/0’/0’/N’, m/44’/501′, and the raw seed used by the Solana command-line tools.
  • Runs entirely offline. The phrase is never transmitted, and a clear function wipes the fields, the search log, and the clipboard.

Version 1.2 · 8.6 MB · Windows · Digitally signed by Datarecovery.com, Inc. · Single file, no installation.

Windows · backup recovery

vextract

Designed for backup administrators and disaster-recovery engineers with a Veeam repository the backup server can no longer open.

  • vextract reads .vbk full backups and .vib incremental files directly. Veeam does not need to be installed.
  • The tool reconstructs each virtual disk as a standard disk image, then applies incrementals in date order.
  • It verifies every recovered block against the checksums in the backup, continues past damaged regions, and recovers everything that remains verifiable.
  • vextract opens backup files read-only and writes a plain report of what was recovered and any range that could not be verified.

Version 4.0 · 11.0 MB · Windows · Digitally signed by Datarecovery.com, Inc. · Single file, no installation; needs free disk space for the extracted images.

Windows · ZFS recovery

RAIDZ Recovery

RAID-Z is ZFS’s parity-based redundancy implementation. We created RAIDZ Recovery for storage administrators, forensic examiners, and recovery labs with a ZFS RAID-Z pool that will no longer import.

  • The tool reads RAID-Z1, RAID-Z2, and RAID-Z3 pools straight from the member disks or their images, read-only, with no ZFS installation and no pool import.
  • It detects pools from the front and tail labels of each member, including members whose partition table or front labels were wiped. Past the parity limit, it still opens the pool, extracts what survives, and can write the whole pool out as one flat raw image.
  • It browses datasets and folders like a mounted pool and extracts files, folders, or whole datasets, verifying every block and writing a per-file damage report.
  • A deep scan feature finds deleted files across the whole pool and catalogs them for extraction; “Verify only” checks every reachable file without writing anything.

Version 1.0.9 · 23.9 MB · Windows · Digitally signed by Datarecovery.com, Inc. · Single file, no installation; administrator rights only to read physical disks directly.

Windows · Proxmox Backup Server recovery

PBS Recovery

Proxmox Backup Server stores backups as content-addressed chunks, and a deleted datastore leaves those chunks on the disk. We created PBS Recovery for administrators and recovery labs who need a deleted or lost PBS datastore rebuilt into one that PBS can verify.

  • Scans one disk or disk image for PBS objects by signature, or reads the member disks of the ZFS RAID-Z pool that held the datastore and rebuilds missing members from parity, up to the parity count.
  • Proves every chunk, index, and manifest with the checksums PBS wrote into them before anything is placed, so a wrong reconstruction can only cause a miss, never a fabricated chunk.
  • Writes a clean datastore tree: the chunk store, each snapshot with its original file names, owner files, and a report with per-snapshot chunk coverage. A script restores the exact snapshot names on Linux.
  • Opens the source read-only, refuses an output folder on the same physical disk, zero-fills and reports unreadable sectors, and resumes from a checkpoint after an interruption. Window and command line.

Version 2 · 4.6 MB · Windows · Digitally signed by Datarecovery.com, Inc. · Single file, no installation; administrator rights only to read physical disks directly.

Windows, Mac, Linux · NVMe recovery

NVMe Recovery Coming Soon

NVMe Recovery restores data from solid-state drives that have stopped working entirely or exhibit severe data loss.

These failures typically stem from structural hardware faults, electrical issues, or code-level bugs: controller malfunction that leaves the drive undetectable by the BIOS, firmware panics that force the drive into a permanent locked or hardware read-only state, sudden power loss that corrupts the translation layer on consumer drives without power-loss-protection capacitors, NAND cell wear and block failure that causes persistent blue screens or volume crashes, and thermal damage to the controller, memory chips, or solder joints. Most of these problems are resolved at the firmware and translation-layer level without chip-off work. Drives that do need chip-off work are handled as well: the required hardware is included, and the chip-off techniques are clearly documented, although they rely on the skill of the technician. NVMe Recovery is designed for data recovery providers, law enforcement, and large IT departments.

  • Rebuilds corrupted translation-layer mapping tables after sudden power loss, restoring access to files the controller can no longer locate.
  • Recovers drives in firmware panic, locked, and hardware read-only states, including drives no longer detected by the BIOS.
  • Handles NAND wear and failed blocks, reconstructing data around degraded cells without modifying the original media.
  • Supports 428 drive models from more than 75 manufacturers, including Samsung, WD, Micron, Intel, Solidigm, Kioxia, SK hynix, Seagate, and Kingston, across consumer, OEM, datacenter, enterprise, and industrial segments (M.2, U.2/U.3, E1.S/E3.S, HHHL, and BGA form factors).

Coming Soon · Windows, Mac, and Linux, one license for all three · Pricing and release date to be announced

A small number of failures involve significant damage to core components such as capacitors and diodes and require physical repair; those cases remain lab services.

DR Advanced Recovery Workbench Coming Soon

Built for recovery technicians, forensic examiners, and administrators who have a disk or a disk image with a damaged, reformatted, or emptied file system and need the files back without writing a byte to the disk.

  • Reads raw disks and images directly and read-only, finds the file systems on them, and rebuilds each one from its own metadata: APFS, HFS+, NTFS, FAT12/16/32, exFAT, ext2/3/4, XFS, and Btrfs.
  • Lists existing files, deleted files, and orphaned folder trees in one catalog. Every deleted file carries an overwrite-risk verdict from the live allocation map, so you know before copying whether its blocks have been reused.
  • Quick scan walks the metadata. Sector scrub sweeps the whole device for structures nothing points at any more, searches for lost volumes, and mines journals, snapshots, and old checkpoints for copies the live file system has forgotten.
  • Recovers everything, only the deleted files, or a hand-picked selection to a folder you choose, with live progress and throughput, and a stop button that keeps the partial results.

Coming soon · Windows, Mac, and Linux, one license for all three · One signed file, no installation; administrator or root rights only to read physical disks directly.

Windows, Mac, Linux · law enforcement

DR Crypto Reconnaissance Coming Soon

Built for law-enforcement digital-forensics units, asset-forfeiture teams, and prosecutors’ technical staff who need to recover, secure and monitor seized cryptocurrency.

  • Imports whatever an investigation produced: any seed phrase (BIP39, Solana, Electrum, and every other known seed phrase technology), private keys in WIF or raw hex, Bitcoin Core wallet.dat files, HD master keys, and watch-only addresses.
  • Scans one seed across every known derivation path, compiled from many sources (see seedcheck.datarecovery.com), on Bitcoin, Litecoin, Bitcoin Cash, Dogecoin, Dash, Zcash, and Ethereum, plus every token those chains support, and imports only funded addresses.
  • Shows incoming transactions the moment they hit the network and can capture and secure them at once by auto-sending to a custody address you set; keeps watch-only balances apart from spendable funds, and consolidates with an explicit fee picker and a confirmation dialog listing the exact sources.
  • Encrypts all key material at rest, logs every network request it makes, and never queries public block explorers: lookups go to datarecovery.com’s own blockchain infrastructure, reserved for law enforcement, or to a server of your own choosing.

Coming soon · Windows, Mac, and Linux, one license for all three · For Law Enforcement Use Only · One signed file, no installation; iPhone and Android versions to follow.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can we try a program before buying?

Yes. Every program has a free trial on request. Fill in the free trial form with your name, company or agency, phone and email, and we’ll email the trial, usually within one business day. You do not need to provide a credit card number for a free trial.

Can we verify the binary before it runs?

Yes. Binary validation is critical for security (and a key part of our own software procurement process).

Each file carries an Authenticode signature from Datarecovery.com, Inc. Check Digital Signatures in the file’s Properties, or run Get-AuthenticodeSignature in PowerShell. The SHA-256 on the program page and in your receipt must match the file you downloaded.

Does anything need to be installed?

No, there’s no installer for any program. APFS and HFS+ for Windows needs administrator rights to read a disk directly and uses the Dokan runtime to present a drive letter. RAIDZ Recovery and PBS Recovery need administrator rights only to read physical disks directly, and work from disk images without them. The others run as a normal user from any folder.

Does the software require access to the internet?

SOL Seed Finder runs entirely offline. vextract, RAIDZ Recovery, PBS Recovery, and APFS and HFS+ for Windows work on local disks and files. barydata for Windows connects to the barydata network, which is its purpose. None of the programs contact a license server.

Is support included?

Yes, by email and at no extra cost. Our engineers are on recovery tickets most of the day, so they answer support questions by email during business hours, Monday to Friday, 9 am to 4 pm Central, at help@datarecovery.com. Include your order number with your request, and you’ll get direct help from the people who created the software.

What happens when a data recovery job is too complex for what the software can provide?

Upon request, we can take the ticket at one of our laboratories. Call 800.237.4200 or start a recovery ticket. The evaluation is free, and if we cannot recover the data you need, you do not pay.
